KeyFilm produces cinema film The Line of Fire

Dutch FilmWorks and producer KeyFilm announce that Waldemar Torenstra will play the lead role in De Vuurlinie, directed by Roel Reiné.
Filming for the film inspired by the life of Dutch soldier Marco Kroon has already started and will take place in the Netherlands and Spain. Sallie Harmsen will play the role of Marco's great love Mirjam. Kroon's teammates will be played by Tibor Lukács, Mike Weerts, Pepijn Schoneveld, Olaf Ait Tami, Steef de Bot, Tim Olivier Somer, Yamill Jones and llias Addab.

Major Marco Kroon is one of our country's most talked-about soldiers. The Line of Fire shows both the fighting in Afghanistan, his struggle against suspicions and convictions and the effects of war trauma on his life. Dutch FilmWorks will release the film in cinemas in September 2023.

About The Line of Fire
On a mission in Afghanistan, Marco Kroon heroically leads his men through firefights. For this, he receives the highest award known to the Netherlands: the military Willems-Orde. In the years that followed, however, Kroon became discredited. At the same time, the soldier struggles with traumas he cannot share even with his love Mirjam, and in the media and on the street everyone has an opinion about him. Kroon finds himself on an emotional rollercoaster. As he tries to prove himself right, he faces perhaps his most difficult mission ever.

De Vuurlinie is directed by Roel Reiné (Red Bad, Michiel de Ruyter, Seal Team Eight, Death Race 2, Dead in Tombstone). The film was developed and is produced by Hanneke Niens of KeyFilm (Soof, What Is Love Then, Camp Holland, Ventoux). Co-producers are AVROTROS and FCCE. The screenplay is written by Alex van Galen (Red Bad, Michiel de Ruyter).

Director Roel Reiné: "I always wanted to make a modern Dutch war film. This story is the perfect balance between war, family drama, coping with trauma and the fascinating way we in the Netherlands treat our heroes. In it, Waldemar is a dream protagonist. I am incredibly impressed by his enormous strength, both in directing and in the heavy emotional scenes. He already made me cry very hard during the filming in Spain."

The film is being realised with support from the Netherlands Film Fund, the Netherlands Film Production Incentive, CoBO and Netflix.
